Jake started Keijira because he kept getting cornered at Home Depot by people asking about Old Faithful, his 1997 Suzuki Carry. He grew up in Sacramento watching his dad haul plants for the family nursery in a beat-up Toyota pickup, dropped out of journalism school at Sac State to start a landscaping business, and bought his first kei truck off Craigslist for $4,200 to haul mulch and mowers. He fell in love immediately and never looked back.

He moved to Boise in 2018 for the kei-friendly regulations and the mountains. He now owns three kei vehicles — the original Carry (lifted, farm duty), a 1998 Honda Acty van he's been converting to a camper for what he calls "the better part of forever," and a 1993 Suzuki Cappuccino he bought because "life is short." His wife Emi tolerates the collection. Their two kids call them "the fun trucks."
